The House is now a Home

Standing Tall Home For Girls is now fully operational. In September 2004 the property in Riverside officially opened its door to be home to teenage mothers and their children. This group home has long been a vision of the leadership of Latter Rain Ministries, Inc.

In only a few months, changes are already being noted in the outlook of the residents. Some of the young ladies have made significant improvement in their academics and others have made great strides in their program goals.   “The level of care and support from the staff has been very high,” observed Willie Jones.

Stability, counseling, structures and character development remain the top priorities of services provided at STHFG. The teen mothers face daily challenges as they continue their high school education, learn parenting skills, relearn boundaries and setting limits.  The in-house Social Worker conducts group sessions and individual therapy that include such topics as self-esteem and Anger Management.  The girls also participate in an Independent Living Skills Program, sponsored by Riverside County, which teaches them life skills such as money management and job-seeking skills.

The recent purchase of a 15-passenger van allows more mobility for residents and plans for local outings.  Since the van was purchased, the residents have had the opportunity to visit the L.A. Sports Arena for the Disney on Ice event, The Long Beach Aquarium, various recreational parks and malls (their favorite).
