School days for STHFG are organized around a natural set of routines. Weekends are less structured. Saturdays can sometimes feel very closed in for residents who do not have passes for family visitations or enough points for an earned outing.
Volunteers are needed. This is an excellent opportunity to touch the lives of young women and help them build toward independent living. “What can I do?” you might ask. Think of any of your interests, gifts and talents a young person might enjoy.
Perhaps you have ideas of your own, but here are some ideas to think about.
- Hair design (braiding and beading)
- Making jewelry
- Exercise routines for life – at home with little or no equip.
- Voice coaching
- Reading music, basic piano
- Creative ways to organize space
- Ideas for home businesses
- Cake design, decorating
- Planning a theme party
- Spa day (especially for manicures and pedicures)
- Any seasonal crafts
- Painting or drawing techniques
- Facial clinics – how to care for skin
- Scrapbooking techniques
- Making gift baskets for presents and centerpieces
- Basic mending, sewing, crocheting, and knitting for beginners
- Developing a personal resume or portfolio
- Teach special recipes, etc.
